I’m getting a little fed up with the constant stories on the Arsenal website and fed to the press from Arsenal with our players saying things like “now we’re good”, “now we’re going to really take off from here” and “things will happen now”, oh and the ever fresh “now our defence is solid”.
Are we there yet?
I would say most of those stories bigging up various Arsenal players and the team in general are speculative at best, arrogant and premature at worst.
The latest specimen is Giroud saying more or less “now that I’ve broken my Premier League duck, I’ll really start scoring some goals”. Not an exact quote of course but that’s the gist of the story.
The thing is… I really hope most (if not all) of those stories do work out to be true. But given the example we’ve had in recent years, I’m not holding my breath.
What’s more embarrassing though is when a player says something like “oh yeah, the defence is really solid now” and we then go and concede stupid goals from unforced defensive errors.
This feeling has been building up for some time and today’s little big-up story was just the straw that broke the camels back.
When indeed are we going to get there?
I do have faith in Arsene Wenger, and I feel very strongly that this team is very nearly (could be) the complete picture. I’d love to see Giroud slamming in goals left right and centre, Walcott maturing to the next Henry (at Arsenal of course), and Gervinho scoring freely.
When’s that going to happen?
Okay okay, my impatience has got the better of me today. I AM prepared to wait. The waiting would be easier however if they’d stop going on and on about us being there already. We’re not, and we can all see that.
Credit us with some common sense, get down to business, and we’ll wait patiently and faithfully (erm, well many of us will).
So c’mon Arsenal get with it. Shut up about being there, and hurry up with getting there.
I’ll have calmed down tomorrow and be much more patient, I’m sure.
